The Marks

People often sit and wonder,
What will be left when they die.
Perhaps a mark on humanity,
Or just a dead body to lie.

The great people of the world,
Are those who leave their mark.
Like great Martin Luther King,
Who made one of light and dark.

So what will you do,
To leave your mark on this land?
When you are food for maggots,
Slowly becoming the sun and sand.

Maybe write a famous book,
Or revolutionary speech.
In an attempt to live on,
So future generations you can teach.

Your mark might be a person,
Or a special-made keepsake.
It could be a crater in Hiroshima,
Or a Bible that is fake.

Do you want to be remembered,
With a frown or a smile?
I suggest you ask this,
And re-evaluate your life's style.

Better than decent poetry. Excellent, thoughtful, poetry.
---I want to be remembered as a person who is kind and loving.
