Hope Haiku

Hope
Hope, the spice of life,
Brings out flavor of despair,
Can I have some more?

This haiku says that hope is a spice of life that brings out the flavor of despair. When you think about it, often times hope is a mechanism through which people believe that their dreams can come true. They can envision in an instant everything they've ever wished for coming true, and it is all because of hope. Yet if a person hopes enough, eventually it may catch up to them. After putting everything in to that one hope and having it fail, they are left saddened, and their dreams are shattered. Even so, after they get over their lost hope, they will throw their hope in to something else. Or perhaps the last line can be seen as humans making the same errors and mistakes. We hope for freedom in the world, and through that hope we go to war with people who oppose us. Thousands of innocent people die, and we later lament our decision and are filled with despair. But eventually, over time, we will long for that taste of hope once more, thus continuing the cycle.
